Fleetwood Mac

Been digging out loads of old Fleetwood Mac today. They rank up there with The Police in my favourite bands of all time - bands that, although not everything was good, when they were good they were very very incredibly good.

It was quite an eye-opener reading about Fleetwood Mac on Wikipedia - quite a roller-coaster ride of a band. Not only was 1977's Rumours recorded after the break-ups of John and Christine McVie, Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, and Mick Fleetwood and his wife, but Mick and Stevie had a bit of a thing later down the line, Christine's later husband co-wrote Little Lies on Tango in the Night, they continued to be a 'band' and play together (admittedly quite on-and-off) until 1987, and the amount of coke they apparently got through would have kept the Columbian economy afloat during the 70s.

What a band.

Long times...

Is it me, or does the summer seem to be flying past like a swift on speed? It seemed only yesterday that I was getting excited about nightrides without lights, about the long hot summer and about beer in gardens with friends, watching the sun set and getting gently drunk as night cocooned us in its warm, summery embrace.

Well, reality check time: the Five is still in pieces after my weeks guiding in Austria at the start of June, the hardtail still hasn't been stripped to be replaced, the singlespeed still hasn't had its forks or rear hub serviced and I'm not getting out on the bike anywhere near as much as I'd been anticipating back in April.

This could be down to a few things - the weather isn't playing ball, despite what the Met Office have said. It's warm, but here in the Chilterns, it's still slimy under wheel and I'm still living in a flat. I have enough of that shit during the winter - summer to me is no-washy-bikey time. There's also a fair lady on the scene - sure, she rides bikes, but isn't it amazing just how much time a new relationship eats? I still can't get my head around it - I swear there's a time monster under my bed. Saturday is merely a snack, warming up for the main course of Sunday. Before I know it it's Monday, I'm wheeling the bike out to the car for the Monday commute and have no real recollection of where the weekend went - I certainly didn't ride my bike.

Then there's work. Sure, I get to work at home a few times a week. But all that means is that I work longer. I know, I know - time management. Yes, this is an aim, and something I do do to a degree - hey, I do get the odd lunchtime run in!

But ultimately, I do need to get out more. I have some of the finest trails in the Home Counties on my doorstep, Aston Hill is but a stones throw and I have have some very, very good kit to get out and play on.

So no excuses.

Good - glad we got that sorted. Time for a beer.

Urgh! I'm feeling knackered. In my new pad but still no bed and am suffering. Pulled up the carpet in my room to reveal some lovely floorboards. They's going to be varnished! This is after my first run in 3 months first thing Saturday morning (owwwuch!) and a 45 mile road spin yesterday which was meant to be an easy pre-breakie warmer. I blew up and ate my body weight in porridge when I got back.

But it is soooo nice having a funky pad with a balcony. I do like it! :-)

Goats 2

Well, I have a blog. Unfortuntely not a lot to say, mainly because I'm bored at work and it's damn hot. Meant to get a haircut tonight, but looking at a flat instead. Got some fine tunes on - The Clash at the moment.
